Robert & Claudene Nobley The Davis Unlimited Recordings
    SFR DU 33049 BUY NOW

This package compiles all the recordings made by award-winning musicians, Robert and Claudene Nobley for the Davis Unlimited label in the mid-1970s. Robert and Claudene’s staunchly traditional recordings featured their close harmony singing on classic old time country and gospel songs by the Carter Family, Mainer’s Mountaineers, Charlie Poole, The Blue Sky Boys and more. This two CD set features the Nobleys with their various recording and performing groups such as the Traditions String Band, Traditionaires and Randolph County String Band. The couple perform as a duet with vocals, guitar and autoharp and they are also joined by bandmates on fiddle, banjo, guitar and harmonica.   The set also includes detailed liner notes that document Robert Nobley’s important role as a 78 record collector and audio tape maker and trader who disseminated recordings of pre-WW 2 string band music in the years before reissue LPs became common. The notes also provide a brief history of Steve Davis and the founding of the Davis Unlimited record label.
